Growing up in Missoula, Montana, Brooke Hess was on skis before she could walk, in a climbing harness before she could read, and in a whitewater kayak before she could drive. She graduated with a B.S. in Geoscience from University of Montana, and now lives in her truck, traveling from river to river and supporting herself through freelance writing. A former U.S. Freestyle Kayak Team member, she spends the majority of the year traveling the world in search of the biggest and best river waves. She has paddled rivers in Europe, Africa, New Zealand, South America, and all over the U.S. and Canada. Her current kayaking goals are focused on big wave freestyle, which makes the massive water of the Mistassibi in Central Quebec her favorite river.
