Module 08 - HUNTING PREPARATION

CAPSIZING EMERGENCIES

Shooting from shore with the ground solidly beneath your feet is always going to be your safest option. However, if you’re going to be shooting at game from a boat, make sure you’re safely seated. Standing up will increase the risk of falling overboard—the recoil from shooting could easily knock you backwards into the water. You might as well jump in the lake if you plan on shooting from a standing position.

If your boat capsizes, stay with it and try to climb onto the overturned hull. Use your whistle or emergency flares to signal for help or swim to shore if you can get there safely. Once on shore, remove your wet clothes and get yourself warmed up immediately.
