If you’re dragging it out by hand, pull the animal by its head and throw a tarp underneath it. You can use a commercial drag (a 9-inch nylon loop attached to a rubber handle) that you simply loop around the base of the antlers or head and pull using the rubber handle. Fancier versions will come with a back harness and attachable rope drag that will free up your hands for carrying your other gear. Putting a tarp under the carcass first will make the pull a little easier and help to keep it clean.
